That is why we put such strong emphasis on who we hire and how they fit into our team – they have to care about the work they do and the experience of their clients as much as the rest of us do!

For example, our Marketing Assistant, Emma Wishart has been with our firm two years today (13th of June 2018)! So we decided to see why she has stuck around and what she is looking forward to in the future.
Catching up with Emma to reflect on her years at Gouldson Legal
How is Gouldson Legal different to other places you’ve worked at?
Before working at Gouldson Legal, I had never worked at a law firm. There are obviously some stark differences between other businesses and a law firm, but there are similarities as well.
Being a personal injuries law firm, we see many catastrophic cases with people who have experienced severe injuries, because of this, the seriousness of the work done here is unlike anywhere else I have worked. It can be a challenging environment at times, but it is nice to see that the work that is achieved here really helps people who are in need.
In terms of my work in particular, it’s been an interesting journey. It’s a very regulated and competitive field, so our strategies are always evolving and adjusting and we’re always looking for the best way to reach out to, and connect with, our clients.
How would you describe the culture at Gouldson Legal in 5 words?
Closely bonded comradery and friendship.
What is your favourite thing about your role at Gouldson Legal?
My favourite thing about my role at Gouldson Legal would definitely have to be the breadth and variety of tasks required for my job. I like that it is a combination of logic and creativity – it’s a dynamic role and I love that I’m not doing the same thing day in, day out.
My role is analytical when it entails creating strategies which require data analysis and critical thinking to provide strategic reports and recommendations. Conversely, it also requires creativity in writing and graphic design along with some photography and videography thrown in for good measure. This breadth is something I know not every role has, so I really value the ability to move between tasks and continue to develop both my creative and analytical skills.
How do you think the firm, and your role, will change in the coming year?
The first change that comes to mind is the sea change we’re going to have later this year! Moving locations (to another part of the CBD) and having a completely new office fit-out and setup that will accommodate our growing numbers is definitely exciting for us all. I know a lot of thought and effort has gone into the design and it will be really great to see how these pictures, proposals and mood boards become a reality.
For me personally, I’m hoping to deepen my knowledge of all the little ins and outs of the firm and expand my skills and my ability in my role.
Most importantly, where are you planning your next holiday?!
I actually have no idea! I would love to head back to Europe someday! At the moment though, it’s a bit more local – the last trip I took was a weekend getaway with friends down to Sydney.
I think for now I’ll just save my money until the travel bug bites again and I’ll see where the winds take me.
