We think that workplace culture plays a very important role in the overall success of our firm and the experience of our clients – team members who enjoy coming to work and like where they work are always going to go above and beyond. That is why we put such strong emphasis on who we hire and how they fit into our team – they have to care about the work they do and the experience of their clients as much as the rest of us do!
We’re proud of the team that we have built and that fact that we all actually like coming to work, we’re also proud that so many of our team stick around for the long-haul!
For example, our Marketing Assistant, Emma Wishart has been with our firm a year today (13th of June 2017)! So we decided to see why she has stuck around and what she is looking forward to in the future.
Catching up with Emma to reflect on her year at Gouldson Legal
What is your favourite thing about working at Gouldson Legal?
I think my favourite thing about working here would have to be the variety of work I get to do in my role. As the marketing assistant I get to help with building strategy and deciding on strategic goals as well as editing blogs, posting on social and a myriad of other things. I get to deal with the nitty gritty of our internal data and create reports for strategic analysis. I also get to use my creative background for design, infographics and photography which is always fun!
What was the firm like when you started?
The firm was a little smaller when I started. I was surprised how friendly everyone was when I began with Gouldson Legal. When I started telling my friends and family that I worked at a law firm a lot of them reacted the same way saying something along the lines of “oh that must be terrible,” but I was pleasantly surprised by the work environment here. The lawyers aren’t egotistical, the assistants are nice and everyone is friendly – it wasn’t at all what my friends and family expected and I was happy to surprise them with such pleasant feedback. Thankfully nothing has change in this regard; I think Faran works hard to keep the firm transparent and down to earth.
How has the firm changed in your time here?
Although I have only been here one year, I have seen a surprising amount of growth at the firm. I have seen five new roles created as well as seeing staff rise through the ranks internally within the firm. It is nice to see that the firm works hard to accommodate people as they grow and encourages them to grow and develop professionally.
What are you looking forward to in your coming year with Gouldson Legal?
I’m looking forward to seeing how the firm keeps growing and changing and how my role will change with that. I think we’ll be going from strength to strength and I’m excited to see what lies ahead for us all here at Gouldson.
How do you spend your time away from the office?
Well this really depends on how I’m feeling. I enjoy the beach but hate getting cold so I won’t be hitting the sand any time soon.
I love spending time with friends and I enjoy a good meal so my perfect weekend involves the two – ideally heading out to dinner with some friends. I also absolutely adore travelling – I’m actually off to Europe in a few weeks! I’m very excited about that but I have a lot of work to do before then, so I better get back to it!
